How to apply

The entire application is online — candidates register on the official portal, fill the form, upload documents, pay the fee online, and download the confirmation. Follow the numbered steps below carefully, because once submitted most fields cannot be edited.

The Exam Dates for this application is 22 Jun 2026 – 30 Jun 2026. We strongly recommend completing the application at least 2-3 days before the deadline — the official portal usually sees heavy load on the last day, and payment-gateway timeouts in the final hours can cause submissions to fail.

  2. 2 Click on the 'City Intimation Slip' link displayed on the homepage.
  3. 3 Enter your application number and password to log in.
  4. 4 Your allotted examination city will be displayed on screen.
  5. 5 Download and save the slip as a PDF; take a printout for your records.
  6. 6 Verify all details (name, application number, exam date, city) for accuracy.
  7. 7 Contact NTA helpdesk at 011-40759000 or ugcnet@nta.ac.in if any discrepancy is found.

Selection process

The selection process is conducted in 5 stages: Computer-Based Test – Paper I (General Aptitude), Computer-Based Test – Paper II (Subject-Specific), Merit List Preparation based on combined Paper I + II score, JRF Allocation (for eligible candidates based on age and rank) and Eligibility Certificate Issuance by NTA. Candidates must clear each stage to be eligible for the next, and the final merit list is prepared on the combined performance across all stages. Detailed marking schemes, qualifying cut-offs, and any tie-breaker rules are listed in the official notification linked above.
